Putting it simply, because women easily excel in whatever they put their mind to, and become passionate about. You see it time and time again with examples of the past and present like: Estee Lauder's love for beauty and devotion to perfume. Madame C J Walker's relentless quest of better hair products for women of color. Helena Rubinstein as an energetic cosmetic pioneer. Oprah Winfrey and her exceptional communication skills. Martha Stewart and her eye for detail and perfection. Victoria Knight-McDowell the elementary school teacher who created Airborne products because she got fed up of catching the flu in her classroom. Or Maxine Clarke the founder of Build-A-Bear who simply had an idea to make retail "more fun."

These are just a few of the many women who decided to take their great, or at first crazy, idea and turn it into something useful. All of these women created empires in a relatively short period of time. And contrary to what we've been made to believe, they are not the exceptions to the rule. In fact most of them were average women, sometimes even very poor until their determination took them to places they never expected.

Now if you're thinking that you probably need more than mere determination and passion to join the multi-millionaire's club, you're absolutely right! There are, in fact, a few other things you need in order to succeed:

• Have a clear concept of your great idea: Just to daydream about inventing automatic hair-rollers will not make them materialize. Put it on paper as clear as you can, until you can see it as a possibility in your mind.

• Be sure to have a just cause: Make sure your great idea is clearly useful in the real world and not only sounds great on paper or in your head. It should solve a real problem, make life easier or better.

• Brainstorm about the basic mechanism: Outline already-existing technologies that could help bring your idea to life or actually become part of its mechanism. You could also try to come up with innovative technology of your own.

• Be sure to know your demographics: Select your market niche and think in terms of what their preferences are. The surest way to succeed is to learn all about a demographic and then anticipate its needs. This will help you to pitch them successfully which is, ultimately, what guarantees your entry into the M-M club. After all is said and done, you must know how to market and sell your product.

This month instead of going wild and getting into more debt, why not take some time to celebrate the great women who not only contributed towards making our world a better place, but have also inspired us with their courage and creativity? Because of them, we can dare to believe that everything is possible.

For these holidays the best gift you can give yourself or any teenage girl you know, is not another pair of shoes or more jewelry and clothes, but to take some time to brainstorm, then carefully develop a billion-dollar idea. Who knows, perhaps by next year this time people might be in a frenzy to get their hands on your product. Think of it like taking some time to write yourself a post-dated billion-dollar check.
